1950s Swirl Coathand painted swirl buttonsI couldn’t stop smiling when I spotted this vintage item.

I thought of Mame Dennis and her irrepressible self, living life on her own terms in her irrepressible wardrobe.

Then I thought of you.

Able, with a single wearing, to surmount the eternal questions:

Is life becoming too predictable?

Am I having enough fun?

Can I wear it as a jacket if I want to?

1950s Swirl Coat (No. 1974). Madcap without being completely mad. Frock-coat cut of midweight Italian wool-blend, so you can find you inner Mame and yes, wear it comfortably indoors, too.

Fizzy, sophisticated pattern looks like Jackson Pollack after a semester of fashion design. Big round-edge collar, very chic standing up. Matching handpainted buttons. A knockout with white cashmere sweater, jeans, and boots; pillbox hat and foot-long cigarette holder optional.

Is that you sitting in the Maharajah’s box, cheering on Tiny at the World Elephant Polo Championships?
