October in Kashmir, just south of Srinagar. Fields of blue-violet saffron blossoms with deep red stigmas stretch as far as a person can see.

The women of Kashmir sing as they gather the prized spice, and the song mingles in the crisp air with the smell of the charcoal-makers at work.
