Shirushakar.

Wide-Legged Yellow and Navy stripes on Natural Seersucker Pants

These fresh, crisp, cooling women’s pants are made of a wonderful substance discovered by the ancient Persians.

“Shirushakar,” they called it, “sugar and milk.”

(The Persians knew a thing or two about cool. They gave us the words “lemon,” “lime,” “orange,” “peach,” “sherbet,” “julep,” “sandal,” “gondola,” and “verandah,” as well as “magic” and “paradise.”)

Shirushakar is cotton with alternating rows of smooth fabric (the “milk”) and puckered fabric (the “sugar”). An aerodynamics expert could doubtless explain how this creates thousands of tiny, cooling air currents… besides which, the way the stuff simply looks is cooling.

This shirushakar (or seersucker, as you may have guessed) is especially good. More substantial cotton. Bigger puckers. Practically wiltproof.

Brown and Navy stripes on Natural

I’ve had it made up in the same style as our reckless wide-legged pants which are on the breezy side to begin with.

You’re ready for the dog days.

Wide-Legged Seersucker Pants (No. 1074), unslouchy 9-oz. cotton that holds a crease. Zip fly. On-seam pockets. Back pockets and belt loops, all nicely tailored. Women’s sizes: 4 through 16.

Colors: Yellow and Navy stripes on Natural, or Brown and Navy stripes on Natural.

(Don’t worry if you spill mayonnaise on them while eating cold lobster aboard the yacht, they clean beautifully.)
