The earth tilts, bringing shorter, nippier, less humid days.
Flakier pie crusts. Bigger moons. Jogger-free beaches. Mums and asters. Boeuf bourguignonne. Dartmouth/Princeton rugby. Killer Scrabble. John Keats. Venice. Unfiltered cider. Meerschaum pipes and faithful dogs. Tailgate parties. Horse auctions. Wooly bears. Hot-peanut carts. Adult education. Snuggling, flannel sheets, smell of woodsmoke…but from where?
The conclusion is inescapable: time to bring out your really good wool challis skirt. And if you don’t happen to have one, here it is, along with the perfect sweater.
See you at the Chincoteague Oyster Festival.
Lacy Silk/Cashmere Sweater (No. 1975). Uppercrust yarn in a
stretchy, mesh-like pointelle knit;
you'll want to wear something underneath (on most occasions,
anyway). Lacy knit trim at scoop neck, cuffs, and hem. Matching satin ribbon tie threaded through ribbed waist. Feminine is an understatement.
Women's sizes: XS, S, M, L.
Color: Rich Brown.
Challis Skirt (No. 1435). Ankle length cut of luxurious wool twill, no too heavy, not too light. Wonderfully flowing and soft to the touch. Fullylined in nylon tricot. Stitch-down pleats around waist. No waistband, side zipper. The pattern is a mellow floral in tones of Burnt Orange, Green, Taupe, and Brown, as rich and complex as the season itself.
Women’s sizes: 4 through 16.
