Irish Hero Sweater
Meet Your Heroes.
It isn’t so much the neps and noils, those flecks of color that spinners have such strong opinions about, that give this sweater its appeal.
It isn’t the three-toggled high collar that looks so impressive buttoned up or flung wildly askew—although it is quite moving to feel virgin merino wool up to your ears while brush-burning at sundown.
Make no mistake: The details are strong, but they are not the sum. The sum is the feeling you get. You know this feeling. It puts you in County Dublin no matter where you lay your feet, wallowing in the wonderful, structureless despair of Becket, the jovial (and bibulous) exuberance of Behan (at least in real life, anyway), and the love lost of Yeats.
Rather than reading the footnotes of great men, of which you might be one, you’ll take up the sword tomorrow to make a difference. Or at least enjoy, rather thoroughly, a champagne and sherry fireside, as the lovable Rogue, Behan, was wont to do.
In any case…
