Herringbone Cocoon Coat
Details
The New Miss Marple.
Every generation has to put its own imprint on the basics.
I was reminded of this on a visit to the tea room at Brown’s Hotel, where Queen
Victoria used to sip darjeeling. The place has changed. They still serve sultana scones and clotted cream with tea, but you can get whole-grain bread now, too. The frayed carpets are gone, the duck’s neck wall lamps have been re-silvered. It’s much lighter and airier.
As to the clientele, I was pleased to see more than one snappy young Miss Marple wearing updated classic items like this.
Herringbone Cocoon Coat (No. 6799). Oversized cocoon-style overcoat in a luxe houndstooth Italian wool blend tweed. Slight drop shoulder and classic notch lapel. Full set-in sleeves. Single-breasted three-button closure. Diagonal welt pockets. Slightly tapered fit (no back vent). Poly twill lining. Large faux horn buttons. Imported.
Tea-Time Tip: it’s still good form to reach for the muffins first, then the little sandwiches; save the pastries for last.
