Pointelle, what’s that?
An exceedingly fine knit, typically in geometric patterns. Looks like lace. Doesn’t cost like it.
Pointelle was quite popular in the 1950s, and no wonder. It has that self-possessed look you saw in every issue of Vogue then. Thoroughly feminine without going over the edge into outright sugary, sultry, or snooty.
I’m sure you can think of quite a few situations where that kind of finesse would come in handy.
Pointelle Sweater (No. 6841). Button-up cardigan with dainty openwork pointelle construction on bodice & sleeves. Ribbed sleeve cuffs and hem. Slightly billowed sleeves. The softest mohair and merino wool blend we could find. Heart-shaped faux shell buttons. Imported.
