Redlands, California, a corner of the inland empire, for a meeting with my West Coast buyer in the afternoon.

Plans in the evening to catch up with a classmate from years past over a casual dinner at Cuca’s, a walk-up spot for Mexican food. One of my go-to spots for as long as I can remember. (If you happen by, try the grapefruit-ade.)

Cool evening in December, or what counts for cool in southern California. The locals, in outerwear—pieces that seldom escape the closet in this part of the country—are out in force.

As per usual, while I look over the menu, I study what they’re wearing.
