I was convinced Dr. Remy, our French, house-call doctor, was a spy. His beautifully patinated gladstone surely contained items appropriate to the clandestine services such as an earpiece, truth serum, and a modelé 1935S with a parkerized finish.

One day he left the bag behind.

A surprisingly careless move, I thought.

The weathered chestnut beckoned under the glow of my mother’s prized hurricane lamp. I approached it slowly and clicked open the brass clasps. The internal hinges creaked open like an accordion. Somewhere, Hitchcock was filming this. I stood on my toes to peer inside. That’s when I knew there were eyes on me. The good doctor had returned.

Incredibly light and easy to carry. Cotton-lined. Hinge opening with brass hardware (so the bag won’t close on you). Internal zip pocket. Underside protected by brass-colored floor-rests.
