Gamla Stan.

Stockholm is humbling. I didn’t appreciate just how long it would take me to walk this archipelago, to explore its fourteen vibrant islands.

I didn’t appreciate how much cooler it is at 9 p.m. in September as I crossed the Vasabron bridge into the old city, Gamla Stan. Last time I was here was in June for Midsummer, and the daylight kept us warm well into the night. 

What I did appreciate though was this jacket. 

I found it with the help of an old friend who took me down a secret alleyway off an ancient cobblestone street to a little shop with no signage. The wax canvas shell has a relaxed earthy hue about it, and the lining is unusual enough that it must have come from Scotland. This is for a discerning adventurer who seeks both function and flair, which is me.
