Product Story

Built for Battle.

Pacific Ocean, 1942.

The SG radar picks up targets southwest making 22 knots in three columns.

Range: 16,000 yards.

The men helming United States Navy battleships like the Sodak and Washington—loading 2,700-pound shells into 16-inch naval rifles with barrels over 60 feet long—wore dungarees and chambray shirts. In fact, this was the standard uniform for most Navy men during WWII, regardless of assignment.

By this point, battleships were used more as screeners for the darlings of the Navy, aircraft carriers. However, armed to the teeth, battleships were still something to be feared.

The enemy found this out at the Battle of Guadalcanal, where the men in the chambray shirts unleashed the lead and saved the day.

For work or play - you'll love it!

I am doing some heavy remodeling, and I wanted a work shirt in the right color blue that didn't cost $250 - $300. This is a great shit, the right color blue, well-constructed and, I'll say it, uniquely manly. It's the small details, like the wide front placket stitching that say: "This is not just any old shirt." I am 5'9" 160 lbs. and the medium fits well in the body and the sleeve length. The cut provides good range of movement without being too bulky. I wash mine (I actually got two) and hang them dry. For men who don't tuck in their shirts the length is about what you might want. Since I always tuck in my shirts, I wish the hem was a three or so inches longer, especially in the back. I also bought a chambray shirt from Brooks Brothers when I bought these shirts. I wish I had gotten three of these! I'm planning to just that. Thank you for a really good shirt, J. Peterman!
