Modern Victorian Blazer
Just as mysterious as the “omitted” (quite literally burned to ashes) contents of Queen Victoria’s personal journals, is how this chic victorian-style blazer found its way into a second-hand shop in Surrey.
The shopkeeper's penchant for monologuing suddenly escaped him. He could shed no light on the blazer’s origins. There wasn’t even a price tag. In fact, it was as if he was seeing it for the first time.
I come across this often—the bewildered merchant who can’t seem to place his or her most astonishing item. It’s a sales technique. The truth, much like those omitted journal entries, never materialized.
The haggling, however, was intense.
Modern Victorian Blazer (No. 6207). Wonderfully luxurious silk and rayon blend velvet. Exceptionally tailored. Although the clothing of the Victorian era was not made for comfort, this piece doesn’t sacrifice elan for wearability courtesy of the arm-sliding acetate lining, front and back princess seams (fitting, speaking of royalty and all), the striking back band collar, and chicly collarless front. When you slip into the elegance, you’ll understand why I put up with all the nonsense.Imported.
