Perryville.
Most vintage shops aren’t closed at 2 p.m. on a Saturday. But when your history includes one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War (and the largest battle in the state of Kentucky), perhaps there is an ingrained sense regarding the notion of taking one’s time.
I was doing the same before heading to the Perryville Battlefield. A window display with a Southern gown and parasol on one side and the inspiration for this wool jacket on the other caught my eye.
Someone had taken their time to preserve the leather collar trim. The wool had seen better days—it was beginning to look like a patchwork quilt. They reenact the Battle of Perryville in October of this year.
Here’s our version.
The Perryville Jacket (No. 6275). We’ve taken some luxurious liberties—pure Shetland virgin wool fabric and supple goat suede inside the collar, lapels, facings, welt pockets, buttonholes, and under the pocket flaps. The shaping seams give this a fitted feel although its substantial enough to feel almost coat-like. Finished with a back yoke, bi-swing, throat latch with a button at each side, and cuffs with button closure. Three interior pockets. Lots of exterior pockets with striking goat suede trim. Faux horn buttons. Fully lined. Courageous and well-heeled without all the sanctimony. Imported.
