Product Story

The Scottish Cure for Ennui.

Gannochy, the highlands of Scotland.

This estate turns out more Macnabs than any other. What's a MacNab?

The MacNab came to life in the 1925 novel John Macnab by John Buchan. A case of ennui has overtaken three gentlemen. In an effort to combat this sad state, they come up with a daring plan.

Under the pseudonym John MacNab, they send a warning to three Highland estates that within a certain 48-hour period they will remove a salmon or a stag from that estat—undetected—and leave it at the door of the house.

The daring of this enterprise turns out to be just the cure they are seeking.

Today, to pull off a MacNab, one must—between dawn and dusk—catch a salmon on a fly, bag a brace of grouse over dogs, and take a red stag. That's a full day.

When the ennui strikes, drastic measures are sometimes necessary.

Should you find yourself in such a predicament, tweed is essential.
